The flip side of India's Demographic Advantage
Various publications, including the World Bank, have unanimously agreed on the United Nations' estimation that India has become the most populous country in the world. But both India and China do not support the United Nations report. Moreover, various estimates like US Census Bureau and Worldometer have numbered India's population lesser than that of China. Hence, the numbers of UN report needs to be scrutinized as their population estimates have failed even in the past. Also, unlike the Chinese saturated population, India's population is still growing. Oddly, the advantage of India's growing population is spoken more than its usage. The quality of the increasing population is neglected. Two reasons for the growing population are poor education and health sectors. The birth rate is highest amongst the illiterate people and the death rate is least among the literates. In this context, the education and health sectors must be focused. Also, human capabilities need to be brushed up. By steam-lining these sectors, India can certainly emerge as a middle-income country in the next two decades.
